The Punch Bowl: Beauty from Scars
Located in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do, **Punch Bowl-ro** gets its name from the area's unique geography.
During the Korean War, a UN war correspondent looked down at the basin surrounded by 1,100m peaks and remarked that it resembled a **"Punch Bowl."** The nickname stuck. Once a fierce battlefield, it is now a sanctuary of peace and nature.
The area's administrative name, 'Haean (亥安)', also has a legend. It implies 'Peace for Pigs'. Folklore says the area was once infested with snakes, so monks advised raising pigs—natural predators of snakes—to bring safety (An) to the village.
