What is Road Address

A road address identifies a location by the name of the road and the building number. Since nationwide adoption in 2014, it is widely used for mail, parcel delivery, and navigation in Korea.

In this guide

We explain the difference from lot number address, when you need an English address, and the official data source.

Difference from lot number address — same place, two forms

The same building can be written in two ways:

  • Lot number (jibun): e.g., 31, Taepyeongno 1-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul
  • Road address: e.g., 110, Sejong-daero, Jung-gu, Seoul

Both refer to the Government Complex-Seoul. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety provides official mapping. Yeoksam-dong 737 often corresponds to Teheran-ro 152 (Gangnam-gu). See the Road vs Jibun guide for a detailed comparison.

When you need an English address

International shipping, visas, documents, and contracts often require the address in Roman script (e.g., Amazon/eBay shipping, visa forms, DHL/FedEx labels). This service converts Korean road addresses to English using official data.

For official information, see the Ministry of the Interior and Safety road address guide.
