The Spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin

Chungmu-ro is named after 'Chungmugong', the posthumous title of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, Korea's legendary naval hero. The name honors him because his birthplace, Geoncheon-dong (near present-day Inhyeon-dong), is located nearby.

Chungmu-ro is also synonymous with Korean cinema. In the 1960s and 70s, fueled by government support, film production companies and labs clustered here, earning it the nickname **'Korea's Hollywood'**.

Although the industry has largely decentralized, Chungmu-ro remains the spiritual home of Korean film history and culture.
